  • Foot pedal or finger control?

The original reason I discounted Tig for my car restoration was I couldn't imagine lying on my back under the dash holding a torch, a filler rod and controlling a footpedal - in other words any out of position welding seemed problematical. I bought the Handler 175 and it's been great for sheet metal work.
Anyway, now my mind is wandering back to a Tig welder and I am unsure if the foot pedal or the finger switch makes the most sense for general purpose Tigging.
    Any advice?
What did you choose and why?
    Thanks!

I've never tried a thumb switch on a tig machine. I like the foot pedal though. My hands are already busy ... I couldn't see adding another task for them to handle.

both have their place. if your primarily welding small items at a bench/table, footpedal is great. if your tigging real big things and have to move around a lot or welding something from the top of a 10' ladder, a hand control can't be beat.

Yea same here, you just cant seem to get complete control of the pedal with your elbow just wont work.

Thumb control is nice when you need to be on the floor, or standing.
