Anyone ever used anything like this http://www.vansantent.com/metal_cutting_saw.htm ? I know plamsa is the way to go most of the time, but for having something more portable and quick to use, think it would be decent up to about 3/16"?
    Thanks

These look to me EXACTLY like a brand we carry at the supply store where I work. Ours are called Evolution instead of Slugger. These (at least ours) are made in Tawain, but the quality is pretty good. They cut great. The blades can be resharpened, and seem to last quite awhile before needing it. The prices are a little better than we sell 'em for. They probably buy in large volume. If you need to make long smooth cuts in plate or expanded metal, this is a good choice. I just wish they were made here.

Also, I forgot to mention, It'll cut thick 1/2 " very well. Even at 45 degree bevel, it cut very smooth.

i use a tenyru metal blade in a wormdrive skill saw . it works great for straight cuts. i don't generally cut much above 3/16" with it, but it does that at almost the same rate as cutting wood. it does tend to throw quite a few chips around.

          Morning Guys

Did I read that right, I could buy a $40.00 blade and stick it into my worm drive and use it to cut plate?

          Where do I sign?

I have used this slugger saw at a welding store demo day. Cuts real nice. I cut a 1/2 inch plate. nice smooth cut. but a friend with a welding shop has one and says that the teeth break off very easy, and he is very careful.

I do use a dewalt carbide blade cutoff saw. it works great

yep, just make sure it's a GOOD saw ... there are other blades out there as well.

porter cable now sells a similar saw also:
