  • MM 251 gun upgrade

I dont think my m25 gun is going to take the heat at upper limits (amps) doing spray (hot ) Anybody got suggestions on a top noch gun thats consumables are easily available ?

I went with a 15' 300amp thermacut tweeko imitation from www.zapplasma.com. Has held up well and consumables are easy to find locally (tweeko).
It is an ok gooseneck but If a genuine 300amp tweeko falls into my hands I will upgrade it. If you have bucks try to find one that feels right in your hand the 300amp guns are somewhat bulkier than the stocker. Please note I am using the other brand of 250 machine.

Planet X, You just made think of something else, gun length. If I am goin get another gun , I wonder if the MM251 drive will push a 15'. seems like I saw some where you get into feed problems over 12'.

I have looked at the 251's drive system and it looks good-more likely the gun/cable system or operator error caused problem. It is somewhat harder to kink a 300amp gun vs. 200-250 amp guns due to their sheer increase in bulk. Course I make an effort not to make a pretzel out've my guns cable anyway...

Bob on this site has the setup you are looking for.Planet X hows a 400 amp 15ft roughneck(oxo)brand new for $75.00 sound? It's a awsome gun for the 251.He got the last one.He should be posting his spray work pretty soon.He has been busy doing nice things for others,so he deserves more than a cheap priced gun.The 251 won't have any problem with .035 wire in a 15 ft gun.In fact I would not doubt it would work better.I have the same gun,but the Esab version of the M-25.They are ok,but I think overall they suck hind tit.

75 bucks sweet! The consumables for my Zap gun are priced decent just have to remember to order up in advance other wise I take it in the shorts and buy the Tweeko stuff off the shelf assuming I run out when the welding store is open

A person could pretty much adapt to anything, but these mig guns come in a plethora of gooseneck styles-finding the one that fits your hand best should be right up there with best price/parts availability.

Good point about the .035 wire too.

It was at a airgas clearance sale. There were only three of them, and he just got lucky.I wanted it,but it had a Miller plug, and back end.So I had to settle for a new 12 ft 350 amp Benard Q with the Tweeco back end for $65.00.Life is a ***** sometimes!
