  • Grizzly Belt/Disc Sander

Does anyone have any experience with this Grizzly combination belt & disc sander? At $245 delivered it looks like a good deal.

Grizzly Industrial, Inc. is a national retail and internet company providing a wide variety of high-quality woodworking and metalworking machinery, power tools, hand tools and accessories. By selling directly to end users we provide the best quality products at the best price to professionals and hobbyists.

Or how about this one from Van Sant Enterprises??

The popular Multitool Belt Grinder Attachment will be the most used tool in your shop! Upgrade your existing bench grinder to a quick change belt sander.

The package with the grinder is the one I'm looking at.

There's a Jet model similer to the Grizzly but it's $379.

Craftsman also has one in this price range.

Anybody have any knowledge of these machines??

I know a couple of people with the Grizzly and Craftsman. Most people prefer the Grizzly.

I have one of those machines and I am quite pleased with it. Used for small to medium sanding tasks it will perform very well. Its a great machine for the price. I have done both precise miter sanding and taking off lots of wood with it. I surprised myself with how close I have been matching my woodworking joints with it. Be sure to get a wide variety of sanding grits with it.
It was tough to move around without a mobile base. It was worth for me to get one after I suffered a groin pull dragging it away from the wall where I store it.

        RE: Grizzly Belt/Disc Sander

        Thanks for the replies.

I'll be using this mainly for metal working, deburring, cleaning up gussets and the like.

The Craftsman has a 11/4 hp motor, the Grizzly has a 3/4HP motor. I think either should be adaquate.

Whatever I decide I'll put it on a rolling cart, all my stuff has to slide out of the basement and into the garage for use. At least until I build a seperate workshop.

Careful about Craftsman HP ratings; Sears has been doubling the actual HP of their tools for years. Given a choice, I would go with Grizzly.

            Re: Grizzly Belt/Disc Sander

I'll probably order the Grizzly tomorrow. They have a showroom in Muncy, PA that's about four hours from me. I may take a day off and take the Sporty down and have a look at some of their other machinery. I've been looking at some of their mill/lathe combo's and compareing them against the Smithy offerings. I get mixed reviews on both?

You mention that you are going to use the machine primarily for metal working. The Grizzly link you provided for the combination belt/'disk sander is in my opinion strictly a woodworking tool. Grizzley has other grinders and sanders that would be more suited for metal working than the G1014Z. I would not hesitate to buy one of those. After sanding wood on my machine i would never use it to remove metal.

This is the model I have, and It does wood, metal, whatever.I kind of think the others would burn up pretty quick if you are not very careful. It cost about half of what a Jet does.I like the 1735 rpm motor. It just might be my favorite tool.I have a few also.

                  Back to thinking!

I don't want to buy my tools twice. That's what happens whenever I try to save a little money, it always costs more in the long run. I took a look at the model Scott suggested and I'm sure considering evryone's input.

I spent the extra $ when I bought the "Ol' Joint Jigger" instead of the less costly imports and when I use this product it just plain works as advertised, and has replacement parts available. I don't regret spending 2-3 times as much when the product works.
