A while back I finally bit the bullet and bought a Jackson "Next GEN.".
Should have done it long ago. After I retrained my self to quit raising the helmet (the old dog new trick syndrome). This really helps me with Tigging aluminum. I especially like the adjustable shade, and the sensitivity adjustments, I'm really spoiled. I use the clear for cleaning with a flapp wheel, then change to 9 for welding. I don't have to try to find where I set my face shield or helmet down.
Try one you will be very happy with it.
CYRUS-J.............. MINE IS ABOUT 2-3 YEARS OLD NOW BUT I THINK IT WAS THE EXECUTIVE ONE............... I'M GUESSING HERE AND AM NOT 100% SURE............. I HAVE A COUPLE OF OTHERS AS WELL........... OPTREL...............MILLER/HOBART.......... ENJOY THE DECISION MAKEING ON THE HELMET............. THERE ARE A BUNCH OF THEM OUT THERE.......................ROCK.............. [email protected]
Any one of the "Brand" name auto darking helmets should do you well. They are all capable of working in any and all welding and cutting applications with their shade and sensitivity adjustments. They all have good headbands that can make them feel secure and comfortable.
Your biggest issue will now be what style and the $$$.
Go check out your one or two of your local distributors. Generally they have a test area where you can try them out.
Good Hunting.

I bought the Next Gen for $275 at my local welding supply, simply love it. I like it better than the Speedglas I use at work. I really can't speak badly about the Speedglas, it is the cheaper fixed shade with only one sensor. The Next Gen is variable with 4 sensors, less bright flashes. The top end Jackson and Speedglas are both good choices,

Enjoy.
Thanks everyone for the input. I have a Speedglas V9000 and up to today I hated it. I could never see the material I was welding. I was getting ready to send it back to see if it was defective when I notice that there are 3 adjustments that happen to be just for mig. Sigh. I tried the lightest mig adjustment and could see decent. Ever feel like an idiot?
To my defense the 3 mig settings are below the bright yellow settings and are in dark red. See attachted picture. The shade settings are on the very left.
my wife just bought me the lincoln auto darkening helmet, it was cheap, around 150 bucks... seems to work fine, are there any problems with this helmet?
I've been VERY happy with the Miller XLix helmet. It's a great upgrade to my old school flip down helmet. Not to mention it was free with my welder. My only peeve is that I haven't had time to leave it outside long enough to get a really good charge. (Solar powered)
Jeramyk............. Here is a true story........My brothers and I had recently purchased a new MM210 with the free helmet......... I drove by the shop last week and seen this helmet hanging on the Peterbuilt mirror outside......... So I'm thinking why is it there, I turn around and go back......... No one there place all locked up, hmmmmmmmmmm so I take the helmet home with me .... Going to have some fun with this one....... Next day I stop down and my brother says someone heisted the helmet....... but admits he left it outside hanging on the mirror.......... jSo now the banter begins finally my brother Starr (that is his real name) catch's on........... so were relentless $$$$$$$ more money out the door.................. ..... Ten minutes later brother Stewart catch's on...........He left it outside..........So he tells us all to take a hike.............................I give the helmet back.............We had some fun with him........And I'm sure he will get even with us....
Be safe............................Rock.............. ............ [email protected]
lol, that's a good story ! It made me laugh when I read it. My wife saw mine sitting outside on my car while I was inside taking a shower. So she put it inside thinking I left it out there by mistake. I didn't notice until later that day I went to grab it and it wasn't there. I found it on my desk next to my PC.
I know the Miller manual says to place the solar powered helmets in direct sunlight to charge them. Anyone have an alternate method ? The reason I ask is because I'm thinking down the road to the cold winter months.
