  • Question about the 12/3 cord on Millermatic 210?

Just wondering why Miller uses such a light cord (12/3) on the millermatic 210. Have seen the Lincoln 200 in the local shops and lincoln uses a 8/3. Just wonding what the reason is, could it be because the cord is only 10ft and you just don't need a larger cord if the distance is that short?

I wondered the same thing but I figure it must be ok if it's done that way from the factory.

      cord

      Corkscrew,
You guessed part of it already, the length does play into the wire size. The other thing that plays in is duty cycle, the Millermatic 210 pulls 30 amps on a 230vac line but has a 60% duty cycle so the wire does not have to be able to carry a full
load 100% of the time. I hope that clears thing up for you Be sure to follow your state and local codes for all other wiring.

also some insulations can stand much greater heat, (amps), without breaking down.
