  • Speedglass better than Nexgen?

    Hi,

I know, and have read, a lot of posts here regarding these two auto darkening hoods.

I got the impression that the speedglass 9000x might be technically better than the nexgen.

BUT...I also understand that the speedglass requires brand specifec lens covers...while the nexgen uses standard plastic lens covers...

Do I got it right? I am leaning towards the nexgen...I don't think I can try either before buying...

Any comments before I do the wrong thing? I suppose I can't go THAT wrong with either helmet...but would like to know more before rather than after I make the move...

    Thanks for any input!

I think its Ford VS Chevy or buy what I bought. If you go with the Next Gen, I hear these people have the best price and service:

I just upgraded from a Jackson Journeyman to a NextGen. I'm very satisfied with the NextGen. Now I can see the weld puddle at low current settings, and the large lens allows me to change set-up without flipping the helmet up, like I had to do with the Journeyman. I haven't used the 5 shade for gas welding yet but I have used the 3 shade for grinding.

I've read the posts that were comparing variable helmets and also got the impression thet Speedglass had the edge in specs but several posts felt the NextGen did all they needed.

My mind was made up when I knew I had to replace my "entry" level helmet if I was going weld with my new T/A 185. I just couldn't see the puddle and when AAA Welding told me he had a sale on the NextGen I ordered it. I'm not sorry I did, it's working great for me.

        Bobster,

Cope is probably right. Both are good helmets/lenses...I know I tend to like and to promote anything I decide upon and end up buying [if I am satisfied with it, that is...]

Anyway, glad to hear the nexgen works well with your T/A 185. That is the welder I have as well.

Got my welder from AAA...link in Cope's post...and will likely order the Jackson today or tomorrow.

Cope...I've always driven Fords as far as trucks go...if I buy a Jackson, am I getting the Ford or Chevy of welding hoods?

I've always driven Dodges, so I would call it the Dodge Ram . Don't think you will be disappointed with your choice. It will be my next hood for sure.

Controls are much different between the 2 with some perfeering one over the other. Speedglass helmet has many new features that might be tempting or you'll hate. Like many things best to see and try both before buying.
