  • 210 Ironman

Hello everyone, My son and I are both old VW Beetle hobbiests and have been running a small Century 110 volt wire feed welder for the past 7-8 years. I was happy with it for the most part, but we decided to get somthing for heavier gauge work that we occasionally run into around the garage.

We found a sale on a Hobart 210 IRONMAN with a free Hobart 770227 auto darkening hood with the eagle on it. $999.99 later, we rolled it out of the store.

Could you guys give me some feedback on your experiences with this unit and this hood?

I used one the other day,and it's got a pretty decent arc to it,and you should be pretty happy if you keep it within the range of the machine. It's probably a better autobody welder then what you were using.I didn't run it with small wire, but I think it might be pretty good.

Well, we lit the fires on the new 210 Iron Man yesterday and did some practice welds on some 1/4 " stock we had laying around.

My son had this goofy grin on his face after he made his 1st few passes running , so I knew he was in love with this thing. My first impression was that it welds smooth, and is very forgiving with the wire speed. We just looked at the chart on the side door and ran the recommended heat and wire speed. It was very very close to the sweet spot.

My son had some fun with me constantly lifting my helmet to see where I was setting the wire to my work. DUH!!!!! auto darkening dad! LOL

            Thanks for the feedback everyone.
