I need some help.
I'm bidding for fabricating splitter boxes for several waste water plants. I've been doing aluminum with GTAW and a SD 180.
With this job I need faster production. I'll be using 1/4" aluminum.
I want use GMAW. I have a Ranger 8 with CV abilities (I know it's the wrong color, but I got a real good deal on it with less than an hour of run time).
I need to know what I need to adapt my Ranger 8. Will a Miller SGA 100 work? I would prefer to use a Spool gun instead of a wire feeder, I haven't had good luck with aluminum wire in the past. Where I used to work I tried a teflon liner different rollers etc, but spent half of my time clearing jammed wire. I plan on using 100% argon shielding.
I really enjoy this forum, I find it very informative, and also entertaining.

FLA JIM...........WELL I THINK A 30A SPOOL GUN AND A WC 115 CONTROL BOX MIGHT BE THE HOT TICKET........ I'M GOING WITH THE 30A SPOOL GUN BECAUSE IT IS A LITTLE HEAVIER DUTY THAN 3545 SPOOL GUN......WELL I LIKE IT MORE ALSO (OLD SCHOOL BIGGER SIZE)..... OK NOW I NEED TO KNOW IF THE ENGINE DRIVE HAS A CONTACTOR IN IT......... LAY THE GUN DOWN DON'T NEED THE WIRE HOT........ IF THE ENGINE DRIVE DOES NOT GO WITH THE WC115A CONTROL BOX (HAS CONTACTOR BUILT IN).....

HOW MANY OF THESE SPLITTER BOXES YOU GOT TO DO..... AND HOW BIG I KNOW THEY ARE 1/4 INCH..........THICK...... THIS IS PIPE FLANGE INTO "Y"..............???????????????.............. HOW MANY................?????????????..... WERE GETTING READY TO HAVE SOME FUN NOW AREN'T WE.................... ...........ROCK.......

I have the Mk python setup,and have had spoolguns,and box setups on my Lincoln 305 ranger.I would pick a Readywelder over those for portable work.It's a good deal.Plus you can run it on the CC/DC setting for thicker stuff,and better bite in on fillet welds in aluminum.

I have four to do initially, with more to follow. The size will vary depending on the plant, but range in size from about four foot square to two foot square with a "V"notch weir, and a bar screen, which is a series of 1/2" bars spaced a inch apart. This is to remove the big chunks from the flow. The weir will alow heavy flows to back up and over flow to another tank to be pumped back in later. The box will be flanged to PVC pipe, I'll cut the holes for the flanges with my new spectrum 375. The pipe size will vary from 4" on small units to 10" on the larger.

My ranger 8 doesn't have a contactor. Being an older fellow, I would like to go as light weight on the spool gun as practical.
