  • MM 251 vs Regency 250

    Greetings all,

I have had an Ironman 250 for about a year now and have been pretty happy with it. However, I am looking at getting a new welder and have narrowed it down to the MM 251 or Regency 250. I am leaning towards the Regency for the biggest complaint I have about the Ironman is the integrated wire feeder. I guess that comes from me growing up in my dad's shop with the nice 3 phase welders.

I have looked at Miller's site and done the online comparison. The biggest difference that I can see performance wise is the fine voltage control on the 251 and only the taps on the Regency which is not a real big deal for me. Is there anything that I have overlooked that would make the MM 251 a better choice? I primarily weld mild steel but do a bit of stainless and aluminum on occasion. Most of my stuff is 1/4" or below but again have burned some 1/2" in my time.

    Any one have any thoughts?

I kind of like the separate feeders better myself. It's a whole lot easier to extend your feeder out farther than moving your welder.Pretty much all the three major brands have got great drive rolls setups in the all in one machines,so I kind of doubt you would see any great difference in how they work.My Powermig 300 has a better drive roll setup than the very nice LN9-GMA I used to have. That said I Know the motor in LN9,and my Hobart 2210 feeder that I have now, will probably out live me.Plus they sound way cooler. My friend had a regency 200 for a long time, and it welded very nice.I would have to compare them side by side to really know, but If I had the extra money I sure would be tempted to go with the regency. One thing though,at that price point of the regency, and feeder,I would really start looking at other machines if I was buying.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've been lurking on this board since last year but haven't had to post a question or had any knowledge to offer since the new board started up. Still not sure what I am going to do but will probably end up with the Regency.
