I just went down to my local Praxair dealer, bought my 40 c.u. cylinder for $55.00, full of CO2. I'm sure that there should be several welding/gas dealers within driving distance. If not, then go with Cyberweld or check ebay. I searched for 'gas cylinder' and got about 12 hits for cylinders, including several 40 c.u. tanks, newly tested with your choice of valves, bids starting at $10.00 and tanks selling betweeb $25 - $30, plus shipping.

I would check local before buying mail order...

ONLY because some suppliers will only fill their own cylinders, and it just might be that that is the one that is closest/most convenient for you.

Plus, turned out around here that the cost was about the same if I bought local.

Just a thought. Whatever you buy will have to be refilled local anyway, so if I were you I would check local before making a final decision...

Very true. Welding suppliers seem to have different policies in different areas. I just bought a new 125 cu ft cylinder of 90 ar/10 co2 and the supplier told me they would swap instead of re-fill. My regular supplier does the same, but a couple of others I contacted said they swapped out. I prefer to keep my cylinder rather than swap out, but one day I will have to pay $25 or so for testing.

I don't think swapping is a big deal.. Just check the test dates before accepting the cylinder.

Yes the test date is important. Luckily I work at a place that does Hydrostatic testing and I can get mine done for free if needed. I was hoping to find one used cheap and then test it and swap it out with them. To my suprise I cant find one in the local trader paper.

I've got nothing against mail (web) order, but I try to buy locally when I can. I really like that I can run down to the local store and get what I need, without having to wait for it. I want them to still be in business next time I need them. You've got to get the tank filled anyway, so that seems like a good candidate for a local purchase. I also like the free advice I get when I go in there. My local BOC has free demo/classes on occasion (via the local Lincoln rep).

I have used cyberweld, though, and their service is good.

I am with these guys, buy it local, you are going to get it filled there, and it doesn't hurt to build a relationship with your supplier.

Bought a 80 Cf cylinder today at my local dealer. We have like 8 dealers in the area and I came up to choosing one. I paid $143.10 tax and all out the door. That was filled of course.

The good news is that filling (swapping) is MUCH cheaper.
