  • Just purchased Hobart 210

I just purchased a Hobart Ironman 210 the other day. I have never welded a single piece in my life. I was wondering if this was a good choice for a begining welder?? Any pros or cons to this choice??? Thanks

You made a good choice. Most people buy too small and wind up having to trade up to 210 or 150 amp.

This machine should do a good job for you. I like the MM 210 a little better, but this is still a good choice. In the future, once you have logged a fair amount of practice time, if you use this machine on any 1/4" or thicker mild steel that is going to see loading a self shielded fluxcore is the best choice with this machine. If you need to know the why on this just ask.
MigMaster 250- Smooth arc with a good touch of softness to it. Good weld puddle wetout. Light spatter producer.
Ironman 230 - Soft arc with a touch of agressiveness to it. Very good weld puddle wet out. Light spatter producer.

HH 125 EZ - impressive little fluxcore only unit

you got yourself a good rig, but if you prep your metal,(bevel the edges) you do not need self shielded wire to insure a sound weld, even with a 175.
Ninety percent of a good weld is planning and prepping, not just throwing a lot of amps and hoping.
