Boy are you in luck!......Sort of. This has been discussed before. I believe Will, originally brought it up, I jumped in and ROCK gave us a lot of information that I did not follow up on. I may attempt it one day.....Just so many things to do. Check out the link below. There may be another one too. I'm not sure.
Yea, that is the info Dave. I was looking for it to post a reply too. I beleive Rock went to a lot of trouble to come up with those part numbers.
SMPARTS18,
Welcome to the forum. I see you are in Michigan too.
Take a close look at the pics I posted of the inside of my Champ 16. If your Champ looks like mine, the info that Rock posted will not work on your welder. It is only for the units with the pc board control. Your only option for remote control is to remove (or replace) the fine control knob with a foot or hand control. with the same resistance. I did not fab one up yet, but is is on my project list. There are several of us on this site with Champ 16's including Dave and me. They seem to be a good unit, I have had no trouble with mine so far. Which engine do you have? I think everyone that has posted here have the Onan engine.

DAVE HAAK,
THANKS FOR YOUR INFO, I'M JUST SURPRIZED THAT THIS SUCH
A PROBLEM FOR A MACHINE THATS NOT VERY OLD. I BOUGHT
MINE DEC. OF '99'. I WAS TOLD BY MY LOCALE WELD SUPPY THAT
MILLERS 'BOBCAT' REMOTE SHOULD WORK ON IT. BUT I NEVER
FOLLOWED UP ON THAT ONE. THANKS AGAIN !
WILL
THANK YOU FOR FOR YOUR INFO, AND PIC'S. MY CHAMP IS
MOUNTED IN A TOTALY ENCLOSED TRAILER. THE FRONT PANEL
COMPLETELY EXPOSED, AS ALMOST THE BACK - I USE THE WELDERS HEAT TO KEEP MY TORCHS - CYLINDERS AVAILABLE AT
ANY TEMP. ESPECIALLY DURING OUR MICHIGAN WINTERS. EACH
SIDE HAS ABOUT 2 FOOT SQUARE ACCESS DOORS FOR EXHAUST,
AND ENGINE MAINTENCE. SO I HAVEN'T 'POPPED THE TOP'. YOUR
PIC'S WAS EXCELLENT. OF COURSE I HAVE AN ONAN, I'VE DONE
SOME HEAVY DUTY WELDING WITH, AND I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS
WITH THE MACHINE. THANKS AGAIN WILL.
