  • New compresor like to have killed me...

I broke down and bought a new quality compressor. It is a Quincy HD two stage 60 gal. 17.5 CFM at 90 psi.

It's nice but heavy. I tried to unload it by myself and it fell over when I unloaded it from the trailer and it broke the relief valve on the head. A easy out and a new vavle fixed that.

Then when I was trying to get it off the pallot and onto the concrete pad it, fell over on me and began to slowly crush me underneth and I had to hollar for help. My neighbors came a running and got it off me. I have few bruises and scratches. If heavy is what makes it a HD compressor then I agree, it is.

It goes good with the new blast cabinet. 60in. wide.

Anybody want to make a donation to me, this forum is breaking me, financially and physically?

I think this explains why all my friends left their compressors on the pallet

I can help you out with a sling, and pair of crutches I ain't using any more, and I think I can still find some Ace bandages; But it looks like you can get them off a local shanker mechanic without paying shipping.
The last machine that tried to kill me was a #2 Brown & Sharp mill.

I'll say one thing about the IR salesman that sold me my 60 gal. vertical compressor, he spent as much time warning me about getting hurt unloading/installing it as he did selling it. He also had lots of tips regarding the same subject. I kept a big strap on mine hooked to the floor joists and beam above where I was installing it. Glad it all turned out OK.

Well from the looks of it, this one will be the only one I ever have to buy. Only problem is I will have to move it again sometime in the future.

                  Heavy lifting

Maybe a little late but when I brought my 80gal horizontal compressor home on the back of the pickup I used a friends engine lift (cherry picker) to unload and position it.
It also comes in handy moving the Smithy lathe/mill around.
Use plenty of straps to maintain balance, go slow and never lift higher than neccessary.

My first was a Craftsman 30 gallon 3HP portable. Sears loaded it in the trunk and I got home and lifted it out by myself. Then I realized I didn't know what I was going to do with it because I couldn't squat or bend down with the thing in front of me. Had to get my wife to help with it.

It is kind of funny to hear someone say "This is the last one I will ever have to buy" you know what they say about famous last words. I have four air compressors and the last one I bought (just two weeks ago) is a 25hp rotary screw that puts out 115 cfm @ 125 psi. The compressor and the refrigerated air dryer cost just about $11,000 plus all of the new piping I installed. I can sandblast with a 1/4" nozzle which uses 88 cfm ( more as it wears out), paint, run my polyurea spray equipment and still have some air left over.

                            Srubrn,
Glad you didn't get too seriously hurt, you got away lucky.

I'm disabled now and never will get better so always consider the chance you take when you don't take all percautions to getting hurt.

                            Enjoy your new Toy!

You know now why they put wheels on those portable units!

I had a 5Hp-25gal unit that I was using for my construction business. I got tired of loading it into the back of my 4WD Expedition by myself and bought one of the little DeWalt units that looks like a tank. It works great. I actually wait for the compressor less now than I did with my big one. I normally don't care much for yellow tools.... but this one is great.

Couldn't get down low enough to put wheels on the ground.
