  • Plasma tip cutting question for Rock

Rock...can you check with your plasma group and find out why the extended tip and the standard tip. I am assuming the extended tip will make comsumables last longer. Are there any other reasons to have these. I have ordered the both the extended and gouge tips. They should all be in by the time my 625 gets here.

    Thanks
    Bob

      Extended Tip

      Bob,
There happens to be some misunderstanding regarding the meaning for “extended tip”. This does not mean the tip lasts longer than the standard tip. Picture a piece of metal shaped like an “L” and using the standard “drag” shield. If the cut begins at the top and inside of the “L” as the head gets into the joint or root the arc will become longer because the head diameter prevents the shield from staying in contact. The longer arc requires more voltage to stay lit and typically goes out. The design of the extended tip allows the operator to get deep into the root and also provides for a longer arc length. Thanks for the question. Have fun. DanV

Thanks Dan for your quick response. I knew that the extended tip didn't mean that it last longer....I just assumed that maybe it might last longer. I have ordered the motor guard filter along with everything else I have done for the air supply system to get as much out of tip life that I can. Your explanation of the arch lenght makes sense and now I understand why I would use that.

I am sure I will have more questions for you when the machine gets here.

        Thanks again
        Bob

Bob,my circle cutting attachment came the other day,and it's awsome. It will really help for straight cuts also.It has wheels to roll on,and it really makes for a smooth pull. That is one of the secrets of a clean cut.
