  • Hobart Handler 120

I am looking at purchasing a used Hobart Handler 125. Is this machine worthwhile? The intended use of this machine will be for fabricating small garden carts for my greenhouse, and some minor repairs around the garage. What i am really looking for is something that is reliable and easily transported aaround the greenhouse. Any thoughts would be much appreciated

The Hobart Handler is a very good machine for what you are going to be using it for. It runs off 115 volts and needs a 20 amp circuit breaker. You should be able to weld up to 1/8 using gas and about 3/16 if you use flux core wire. Most of the parts for this are still available depending on the age of the welder. I hope you are getting it for a good price because a new one in that range will cost you $419 to $469 depending where you shop.

If you're going to be welding real thin stuff...the HH125 would be good, however if you need more punch for welding a variety of thicknesses, go for the 135. I guess I'm a little late with this post. I see you've already upgraded.

I will say one thing though those old copper 120 volt handlers are tough as nails.I sure would not have a problem buying one used.
