  • CMT brand Tools?

I picked up this dial caliper for $30 at my surplus place (which got me a $5 gift card as well), but it has no markings of where it was made and I have never heard of the brand.

It measures the same (as accurate) as my General plastic one, only this one is stainless and cost about as much. All the construction details seem to be first rate - has a brass locking bar, the thumb adjuster freely rotates till you press on it and then it grips nicely, there's a shock absorber piece at full extension. Says shockproof on it (so do $3 watches though).

Anyone ever heard of these? Should I keep it or not?

PM me and I will send you my address so you can ship it to me for evaluation. I suspect it is fine for all but critical use; surely accurate enough for a weldor.

The only CMT I've seen is the company that has the orange router bits
Since 1962 CMT has been producing professional tools for woodworking: router bits, circular saw blades, sabre and jig saws. Discover the catalogue!

      Their tools are well regarded.

The packaging screams "cheap" (except the foam in the case is actually sturdy), and the caliper is made exactly like the high buck ones I used in the army and at other jobs.

They have a few more (there were 3 at the store I got it from, but they have 3 locations), if anyone wants one, I'll send it to ya for cost plus postage.

I just noticed an engraving on the back that says "GS725996" looks like it was done by hand.
