  • Wanna see a pic of Dan's nozzle...snicker

...that just sounded funny, sorry Dan

I was searching through old posts, one from 2003 where Dan showed this nozzle modified for better visibility on an HH 175. Could the nozzle opening be swaged to a smaller diameter for about the first 1/2" to achieve even better visibilty? I would think it would be OK with a reduction in gas flow but thought I would ask.

I want to also note that I read that the fit up on the 22 ga sheet metal had to be tight or it would burn through. My fit-up has been poor when welding 16 ga tubing and I burn through often...well, now I know

I just extend the contact beyond the nozzle when doing low amperage short circuit welding, but the nozzle is a slip on that allows easy adjustment of stick-out . It's a red thing

By "extend" do you mean you do not screw the tip in all the way?
          Thanks

On my lincoln gun the nozzle is adjustable. It is a friction fit and it can be slid in or out. You screw the tip all the way in.

I have a Roughneck 12 footer on my 350P and I sure wish it was a slip fit like the Lincoln. Miller makes you buy different length diffusers for contact tip adjustment. Its either that or grind the nozzle down. I really like the roughneck torch but it would have been much better with a friction fit nozzle on it.

Scroll down to the parts diagram, at the bottom it looks like you can get slip on parts. http://www.millerwelds.com/pdf/spec_sheets/AY17-0.pdf

Just like RST said, the contact tip is screwed in like normal, its just you can push or pull the nozzle in or out, so recessing or extending the contact tip is ez.

Next time you are in your welding store, just ask them if they have any slip on style diffusers that work with whatever gun you are using, and get some slip on nozzles and your set. Just another tool option.

I chucked one of mine that was a wee bit damaged in the old lathe and machined 2 or 3mm off it and use that. If I want a longer one I just slip a different one on. I really don't see the need to do that though. I don't notice any real difference.

Hmmm, I hadn't seen that before and I have that same spec in my torch manual. Thanx!
