  • Lincoln Spool Gun

    I would like to know what nitwit created the attachment for the power mig spool gun, the gun is suppose to sit from the round handle into a square post. However the guy did not measure the guns handle, so it wont fit into the hole.

      Hows it going fellow Power Mig 300 owner I can't really see what you are talking from the picture posted. I have one question why did you get the spool gun instead of a push/pull gun Was it the price? I really don't want to spend the $$$s for the push/pull set up but I am going to save up for it. From everything I have read its the way to go. Being able to MIG weld aluminum & make TIG looking welds on .050" aluminum is amazing to me I can't wait till I can afford to get it

        I got the spool gun due to space limets where we are to work, the machine would not fit into the area. So i got the spool gun and long cables, I can leave the machine the the control room and run the gun 50 feet away. Bringing the power mig down 3 floors I though was out of the picture.

        But what a stupid design?

        Thanks

          Our own reasons usually dictate the way we all do things. I can understand yours. Still can you take a closer picture so I can see what you are trying to explain. The pic is too far away to see what you are trying to explain about the connectors

            Rangerod;

            When you buy the spool gun attachment Lincoln sends you a shelf type piece of bent steel to place the gun into, however the designer made the hole for the gun too small, so it has to hang buy the barrel of the gun.
            That leaves the entire upper half of the gun exposed to all of the hazards during any type of move while it is in place.

            Gun works great, just bad planning on there part.

            Thanks I will get a few more pics to you

              rangerod,
              Are you saying the push-pull gun works better than a spool gun? I am considering either a spool gun, or a push pull gun to use with an LN-25 wire feeder. Have you used both? If so how do they compare? comments welcome from anyone who has used both and can compare.

              regards,
              JTMcC.

                Its not that either is better or worse as far as functionality is concerned, they both should work just about the same. The big factor is bulk, weight & the $$$ of the spool gun opposed to the $$$ of the push/pull setup. I have used a spool gun & after a 10 hour day your arm really starts to feel the weight. The spool gun is much heavier & bigger than a push/pull gun so with the push pull setup you don't get as much fatigue & you can get into tighter places with it. The big detractor is the $$$ for the push/pull setup. Maybe Scott V will chime in about his view on this subject, I know he has a Python push/pull setup How to do like yoyr LN-25? I have one & love it, I was having a little trouble with mine a few months back but it ended up just being I had it on the wrong settings now it works like a dream Have a good one & welcome to the board

                  Now I see what you are saying. Your problem is the damage that might happen to it when its not in use I thought it was the connecctors you were having problems with. I can understand your concern I would not be a happy camper if I spent all that money on a spool gun & it got damaged because of the way it has to be stored on the machine Have a good one

                    Spool VS Pushpull

                    I own a Miller Spoolgun and a ESAB Mongoose push pull.. I run the Mongoose on an old Dipcor 300 and an old Aircomatic case feeder with an extra transformer installed to power the drive motor. of the mongoose.. Really works great.. The spoolgun runs fine too.. but a bit heavy.. I can put the mongoose cable over my back to take up the weight.. and feed off 44 pound spools. My power sources are not on wheels.. but all have 100 foot control cables which makes life easy..Spoolguns are fine for short runs.. wire is expensive.. and I am cheap..(thrifty)??? On the down side.. parts for the mongoose are hard to get and expensive..but I don't use either to often.. My .02 cents::

                      JTM,I had both,and the push-pull python has a better balance.My Esab spoolgun,control box setup cost more then my Mk python push-pull.I could get longer reach with my spoolgun box setup by adding welding cable,and gas hose.That was way cheaper than any other setup when trying to add length.They both weld great.The big plus for a spoolgun setup is you can buy one or two pound spools of wire for small jobs.Maybe you don't want to buy a $100.00 worth of stainless wire for a $20.00 job?Also on my Esab,and most other machines you can leave the spoolgun hooked up while still using your standard gun.That's not possible with my powermig 300 push-pull setup.All that seems in favor of the spoolgun except how it feels,and cheaper per pound wire.I wouldn't trade my push-pull setup for two spoolguns setups!Although I wouldn't mind having a spoolgun setup again,just for the reasons I stated above.

                      I have never seen a push-pull for the LN-25 feeder?

                        A push pull for an LN-25, boy that would have to be something.

                        My LN-25 works like the perfect golf swing, when you do get it dont let it go. Finding that sweet spot can be trying at times.

                        Good Luck

                            Rock;
                            When you pay top dollars for a product you would expect them to make the thing so it works, how does a Hobart spoolgun mount to the machine? Would I have to modify your brackets to accept your gun?

                            No the problem is in design, why do they make a product that they know you will no be able to use, plus the hit you for the bracket even it you do not want it, it comes as a kit.

                            Thats what sends me reeling.

                            Thanks Rock

                              You're right, there isn't a push pull gun that will work with an LN-25, it would have been nice tho! I guess that puts me in the spool gun market, aluminum is a pretty small, but steady part of our work.
