I picked up a spool of wire at a junk yard for free but am not sure what it is. The Label says Hobart 55T Stainless. i can't find this in the hobart catalog. Any Ideas?
Thanks, Brent
W7POD.......WELCOME ABOARD.......... I WILL HAVE SECRET AGENT CHARLES WEIDNER ANSWER THIS ONE FOR YOU........... HE WORKS IN THE LAB AT THE WELDING SCHOOL...........BUTCH YOUR UP AND THANKS FOR VOLUNTEERING TO HELP OUT........ I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT.................ROCK....................... [email protected]
Thanks for your help Rock. The 55T SS wire is a 25lb 1/16" I hoped I could straighten it and use it for TIG. My welding has been limited to Hobby & Farm type welding, but now I'm retired and plan on it becoming a BIGGER HOBBY. I bought a SD 180 last week (First TIG) and would like to play around in Alum & SS. I can tell already I've got a lot to learn. Ive had several stick Machines over the years and an old MM35 for the last 9 Years that I use for most of my welding.
W7POD..........WELL BUTCH DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO ANSWER THIS HE IS GONE UNTIL MAY 5 NOW.......... TRAVEL'S SOME DOESN'T HE........ANY WAYS DENNY AND I HAD A CONVERSATION AND HE COULDN'T TELL ME HOW LONG AGO THEY QUIT MAKEING 55T........... SO WE KNOW IT HAS BEEN AWHILE...........T=TUBULAR SO IT IS HOLOW IN THE MIDDLE.............ALTHOUGH IT IS WIRE DESIGNED TO RUN ON CONSTANT VOLTAGE MIG MACHINE..... WE HAVE NEVER TRIED IT FOR FILLER ROD...........DO NOT.... DO NOT USE IT FOR ANYTHING CRITICAL....... I WOULD THINK IT WOULD NOT WORK BUT PERHAPS FOR ALL NON CRITICAL WELDS YOU CAN TRY IT..................... IN ALL HONESTY......... WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY ONE TRYING IT BEFORE..........SORRY.......... WE JUST DON'T KNOW.............. YOUR CALL.......................BE SAFE.............ROCK.. [email protected]
I guess I can us the wire for tie wire, alot of fence around here to mend. Being new to TIG I don't need any more handy-caps. Keep up the good work on the board, I didn't know Hobart had this board untill I went looking for Info on this wire. I have sure enjoyed reading and learning from everyones messages.
