Whats the deal with who makes what? I am told Hobarts little machines are the same as millers little machines, and the Big Hobarts are the same as the thermalarcs? Whats the real deal? Who makes what?
Click on the welding links above, it explains a lot. There are a couple of machines that are identical, except for the paint job. ROCK will be back from the AWS show on the 11th ...he can explain it....and in caps, too.
TUNGESTON...........SORRY MAN ALWAYS IN CAPS BUT HEY I'M NOT HOLLERING...............OK .............IN 1995 WHEN ITW PURCHASED HOBARTS THEY WERE REQUIRED TO SELL OFF 70-75% OF THE WELDING BUSINESS..........FIRST TO PRESTOLITE THEN IT WENT TO THERMAL ARC..........THERMAL ARC HAD SEVERAL YEARS TO CONVERT FROM THE HOBART NAME TO THE THERMAL ARC NAME.......... ALSO SINCE ITW OWNED MILLER AND HOBARTS WE DO WORK QUITE WELL TOGETHER. YES WE BUILD EACH OTHERS EQUIPMENT LIKE THIS THE TIGMATE (HOBART) AND THE ECONOTIG (MILLER) ARE THE SAME MACHINE EXCEPT FOR THE COLOR OF THE WRAPPER.................. HOWEVER THE MILLER MATIC 135/175 AND THE HANDLER 135/175 ARE TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT MACHINES...........SAME GUNS AND DRIVE MOTORS AND THAT IS ABOUT IT...............THIS IS A QUICK SENERIO OF HOW IT IS ..................................GOOD QUESTION AND ONE I HADN'T ANSWERED IN AWHILE..........................ROCK.......... [email protected]
The Millermatic 135/175 has an infinite voltage control, while the Hobart Handler 135/175 has a set tap voltage control, you must have the voltage set to position 1,2,3, or 4. The MM135 has a rated output of 90amps at 18VDC, with a 20% Duty cycle. While the Handler 135 has a rated output of 90amps at 19VDC, with a 20% Duty Cycle. Both of the 175's have rated outputs of 130amps at 20VDC, with a 30% Duty Cycle. The Hobart Handlers and the Millermatics both have different looks, sheet metal, trnsformers, stabilizers, printed circuit boards, etc.
The similarities between the two? ... I'm glad you asked.... ITW owns both companies and the technicians get along quite good for both companies. We share ideas and concerns.
