I always wondered how well a HH 135 would actually perform on 3/16" mild steel with a self shielded fluxcore wire. Hobart states that it will weld 3/16" in a single pass. So, today I set the machine up with an .030 E71T-11 gasless fluxcore wire, and gave it a try. I was very suprised at the results that I achieved with this machine. I was expecting a cold looking weld bead. However, the actual results was quite different then I expected. As I ran the bead I could see it burning into the side walls of the T joints that I was welding. I ran about 12 of these 1 1/2" long beads in a very short time frame and the machine never did shut down. Also, there was no lose with the arc performance. I didn t break any of the welds, because I had a limited amount of 3/16 and was having too much fun running the welds to give up weld joint. Next time I try this I break some too. Anyway herer are a few pictures to take a look at. They are all T joints.
