I have been looking at a Hobart TF-250-HF tig welder ,a friend wants to sell it and he wants 375.00 ? should I save up and buy a new one or is this older model worth going after?

If it works, buy it.People have been making great welds with older machines for a long time, and still are.Sounds like a great deal to me.You can always get more then that,if you want to upgrade later.

BUSABUSA..............DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A BAD DEAL.... DO YOU GET THE TORCH'S AND STINGER LEADS.............UNIT IS AC/DC SINGLE PHASE WITH HIGH FREQUENCY.............UNFORTUNATELY NO PARTS LEFT FOR IT ANY MORE IS 15 TO 20 YEARS OLD. AND IS 3 GENERATIONS REMOVED FROM ANYTHING CURRENT........... SEEMS LIKE THE ONLY THING THAT EVER WENT BAD IN THEM WAS THE HF TRANSFORMER, THE DARLINGTON TRANSISTOR OR THE 4 CASCADEING TRANSISTORS AND RELATED RESISTORS........... YOUR CALL..............IF IT WORKS WILL PROABABLY LAST FOR A WHILE........................YOUR CALL YOUR MONEY.............. HAVE SOME FUN WITH IT..............YOUR DECISION.......................ROCK[email protected]

So if the HF transformer went bad it would be junk or could some other transformer be adapted? I don't want something that if one thing goes wrong it's junk?

High frek is easy to fix. Usually you can get every thing going again with an ignition transformer from an oil burner, and a few high voltage capacitors. It is basically the same as the primary circuit on a tesla coil, there are plenty of tesla sites where you can get info on the theory, once you know how it works, it's really simple.

ScottV lives in Portland. He probably is tired of one or more of his welders.

Seriously, he may know of some good deals, he has a friendly welding supplier.

Cope,I was trying to avoid this this post until the the welder was sold! busabusa,Tigs are kind of hard to come by most times.I would probally buy that tig,and I could probally help you get a pretty good trade in on something new.If you could email me some pics of it I would know more. Also is there a footpedal or anything else with it.I could maybe help you put it up for sale at the welding store if you wanted to try that route. And lastly(hate to say this)I might be interested.
