  • Band Saw Mods

I bought one of those "Quality product" band saws recently. I picked it up used at the right price, so I put some money in mods. This first pic shows the on-board tools for adjusting the vise, and the pan which I mounted to catch the chips. And, of course I made a sturdier stand for it.

Here, I added hydraulic downfeed, and the big red handle holds the nut on the bottom of the vise when adjusting angles. That way, I don't have to get up there with a wrench to make adjustments. The cylinder is the one sold on ebay, and I replaced the cheap round knob that came with it. It is a home made handle that mounts to the valve with a set screw.

This last one is a piece of wire that is perfectly aligned with the blade. I can align my work piece without lowering the saw head.

        Arbo,

That alignment wire is a great idea. I'm going to have to add that to my power hacksaw.

I too really like that alignment wire. I have a saw very similar to that and get tired of lowering it to align the cut.

          good tip THANKS!

Hi Arbo..some great work as usual. If you check back to my thread on the mods I made you will see that I used a one way popet valve. With this I can lower the saw to just about my material to be cut and screw the valve in to hold the saw in a fixed position. I then align my steel to the blade, start the saw and loosen the valve so I start to feed. Works great. Will got these valves on ebay for around 8 to 10 dollars.

            Just and Idea....

            Thanks
