When welding with my hh120 the arc starts out and works fine for a few seconds then it starts surging, it looks kind of like a strobe light. I have a new liner, tip and new roll of .030 flux core wire. I have tried adjusting the wire speed and stickout. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Since you've checked everything on the working end of the torch, now you need to check everything inside the machine.

Make sure you've got the tension set correctly on the spool reel and also on the take-up roller.

Lastly, try and keep you cable as straight as possible.

    Hope this helps.

farmboy, is the wire melting back towards the tip? I once had this problem and it was the wire sliping on the drive roller. Does the drive roller still look good? I check my drive pressure by pointing the gun towards my wooden table table top about 4 or 5 inches and pointing it at a angle. I run the wire out until it hits the wood. If it can't bend the wire then i know it's slippng. You can't have it to tight or it will deform the wire. Maybe take the drive roller loose and pull the wire with some pliers at the tip, and see if it pulls easy. Maybe this will help you fix it.

you say you've just put on a new roll of flux core wire. you haven't recently used solid wire have you ? if so, check the polarity.
