  • Thermal Dynamics CUTMASTER 38 Plasma Cutter

Ok gang. I am getting things narrowed down for a plasman cutter. I see that TD has within the last 6 months released a new cutter with a new style torch. Itorch I believe it is called. Just wondering if any of you have experience with this new cutter and torch. I have checked on the price of consumables for this model and they don't seem unreasonable.

    Cutmaster 38xl

I have a Thermal dynamics 38xl thats nice If fact I used it yesterday along with my esab 1125 machine.I like having a 120,and a 240 volt plasma. The output on the cutmaster is the highest in its class at 30 amps output.Mine is 29 amps.It can run on full output on 120 if your 120 volt wire, and breaker is big enough.27 amps imput. The gun is better than mine, and the case is better, and my friend at the store is selling a bunch of them. There is nothing close to that machine anywhere.I think 240 imput is 14 amps or so.Smallest cutting kerf also,at least with my gun.I think that one is the same.I haven't checked with my friend on that, but I have been meaning to ask him that.Ok guys lets start hearing how on a website they tested a hypertherm ,and just beat everything out there.Not.

Thanks for all the feedback so far guys. Scott, I am going to run this machine on a 220 circuit. The new gun is suppose to give much increased comsumable's life. I hope to order within the next 30 days. Glad I finally made up mind. That is unless I hear something negative about this machine in the mean time.

          Cutmaster 38 xl

I just got back from the welding store, are talked to my friend about it a again. He said They are the best, and talked to the esab rep about it.The rep said Esab had a little machine for about a year, and was going to bring it out,but they could not compete with the cutmaster. They had a meeting, and came up with they could cheapen up their machine to compete, but figures it just would of got them a black eye doing so. Their machine is on hold because it cost more money.Thermal is selling that machine for under cost to get market share.I also talked a little about their money troubles.Seems like the companys profits where skimmed somebody. Some bankster gangster types. They just had a big dept load from them. They still have lots going for them. This happened to a lot of companys.

Yea...I was going to change that link. I figured the comma problem as soon as I got the 404 error.

I see they have the cutmaster 38 there but not the XL.

I like that 38XL, can't find it priced on the internet anywhere.

I ran into a guy a few weeks ago who had just bought this plasma cutter. said it cost right at $900. was pleased with it he said. never hear anyone mention HTP products, somehow I have an HTP instructional welding video.

                          Pakmaster 38 xl

The pakmaster 38 xl is no longer made.Thats the one I have. The cutmaster replaced it.At my welding store the cutmaster is selling for $1145.00,with no sales tax(Oregon). On my pakmaster I ordered it with a 25 foot 70 degree head.I picked the torch for getting into tight spaces under cars. I think I payed about $1190.00 for mine.So thats why the cutmaster is a great deal.

I would hold off on the plasma cutter until after you get a chance to try out Aaron's new TIG machine, because your going to discover real fast after using it that you want a TIG machine too. I made the mistake of buying buying my Hypertherm Powermax 380 before my TIG machine, and after that the only TIG machine my wife would approve was a Miller Econotig. This was actually the one time where the discount that my local welding supply store gives me on my machines hurt me. My normal salesman drop the price of the machine by about $150 down to around $1000. My wife saw this as compared to $1400 + for the machines that I actually wanted and said Econotig or nothing. In such a case an Econotig is the wise choice.
