  • longer gun for handler 175

Is it possible to put the Miller 15ft gun cable on my Hobart 175 (which is about 1yr old if that makes a difference) that extra 5ft over the 10ft that came with mine sure would be nice.

My gun says Miller on it but don't want to go out and buy the part if they won't interchange. thanks. A friend has a Miller 130 XP and his has the 15ft gun and it "looks" like it would swap to mine.

so, my question is will it work and if so exactly which parts do I need to order and from where can I order them. thanks ...

The Hobart Handler has a different size power pin than the Millermaticas do, the mig guns are not interchangable. We do not recommend going to a longer mig gun, because you may experience wire drive problems associated with the longer gun. The Handlers use an H-10 gun, and the MillerMatic 135 and 175 use an M10 gun.

Ok. I was just comparing specs on the welders and noticed the H-10 and M-10 designations of the different welders. thanks for the info though.

what do the HH factory guys say?

MORPHEUS..........I have also been looking around for a longer gun for my HH 175. When repairing a trailer it was a real pain welding on both sides of the trailer without a lot of shuffling. A 15' gun would be real nice. I have been wanting to try some .045 fluxcore wire and had planned on setting a 15' gun up with a .045 liner. I would think that the heavier wire would feed better than lighter wire. On another post about the MM 175 the moderator said that they don't reccomend any gun longer than the 10' gun that came with the welder. Since the MM 175 is very similar is the recommendation the same? So has anyone tried a longer gun? If so what make, model, wire size and what were the results? What do you factory guys say about it?

hey bitternut, yeah, I saw that thread about the MM 175 too. I asked them via email previously the same question about the longer gun and they gave the same answer about the drive mechanism not being strong enough to push the wire that for. Which is truly a bummer ... a 15ft gun would be VERY nice ...

WELL........ON THE RECOMMENDATION ........ IF YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO TRY ONE.........WHY NOT GIVE THE 12 FOOTER 169591 A TRY. I DON'T THINK YOU WILL BE PLEASED WITH THE PERFORMANCE. BEFORE YOU SPEND THE MONEY THRU YOUR LOCAL MILLER/HOBART DISTRIBUTOR MAYBE YOU CAN FIND SOMEONE WHO HAS A MM210 WITH A 12 FOOT GUN ON IT YOU CAN BORROW AND TRY FIRST...............THEN WHEN (YOUR) NOT HAPPY WITH IT YOU CAN SAY, GLAD I DIDN'T WASTE MY HARD EARNED MONEY ON A 12 FOOTER FOR MYSELF........ THE PART NUMBER SUPPLIED ABOVE IS FOR AN M-15 12' GUN....... NOT RECOMMENDED BUT I KNOW HOW IT GOES.......SOME PEOPLE JUST NEED TO TRY IT AND CONFIRM FOR THEM SELVES......HAHAHA EVEN I'VE DONE THAT BEFORE, JUST GOT TO TRY IT....... . SO I SAY GIVE IT A SHOT AND SEE FOR YOURSELVES.......... HEY HAVE SOME FUN WITH IT...................ROCK........ [email protected]

                Im convinced

Thanks Rock for the expert advice. I'm unhappy that I can't use a longer gun on my HH 175 but if it don't work it don't work. Maybe I will just have to save up for a bigger better model. You know like a 251 or so. Not being real experienced welding I don't need to throw malfunctioning equipment into the equation. Thanks again for your help.

I bought a Miller and a Lincoln gun at a auction. I own a Hobart Betamig 200. I machined adapters so the different guns will all fit the Hobart. I also bought a 15 foot Tweco. It was close but didn't quite go into the Hobart. A few minuites on the lathe and it fit.
