Brian, The Linear I was Made for welding Aluminum, It was a Push pull feeder which Made it easier to feed the Aluminum wire without bird nesting. This was built for a Mig power Supply and will not work properly on a Stick welder. #1 The gun will always be hot because there is no contactor in a Stick welder.#2 The Open Circuit Voltage will be around 80 volts which will cause the wire to burn back to the tip easy.
As Rock said I would also pass on this and go to something you can use.
Thanks
Dave Evans

Guest repliedHI BRIAN........WELL YOUR IN TROUBLE IF YOUR GOING TO BUY IT.......THE LINEAR 1 WAS REPLACED BY THE LINEAR II.....BOTH WERE OBSOLETE MANY YEARS ABOUT 1986-89 TIME FRAME. I AM SURE NO PC BOARDS FOR THE LINEAR I ARE AVAILABLE.....THE UNITS ALSO HAD A PUSH PULL GUN SYSTEM ON THEM..... IN OTHERWARDS BOTH REQUIRED A SPECIAL MIG GUN AND I DON'T THINK THEY ARE AVAILABLE ANY LONGER EITHER......... I THINK I WOULD PAS ON THIS ONE HOWEVER THE CALL IS YOURS IT IS YOUR MONEY................WHAT MACHIEN WERE YOU THINKING OF PUTTING THIS ON, MY BROTHERS AND I HAD OUR LINEAR1 ON A CYBERTIG MACHINE, AC/DC..........IT WORKED GREAT AS LONG AS YOU REMEMBERED TO TURN THE HIGH FREQUENCY OFF. IF YOU FORGOT IT ATE THE PC BOARD IN 2 TENTHS OF A SECOND AND TURNED IT INTO A SMOKEING PIECE OF JUNK PC BOARD..... BUT IT IS YOUR CALL HAVE FUN WITH IT.............ROCK....... [email protected]

Help...Linear 1 welder info
Im considering buying an old Hobart Linear 1 welder. Will this type of unit run off a home duty ac/dc welder? Will a standard gun and cable work on this unit? How long ago were these welders manufactured. Are any sources left for parts?
Thanks in advance for all assistance
