  • Underwater Welding

How much underwater welding work is available? How does one learn the process? Most underwater welders I meet are working above ground....why?

    Mike,
What came first, the chicken or the egg? Is it harder to train a diver to weld or train a welder to dive? Besides Navy Dive School, there are a whole bunch of civilian dive schools. I think the closest one to you is up in New Jersey.
Most of the U/W welding work is done on a surface supplied system, aka hardhat diving and all the civilian companys I know of require you to have graduated from some sort of approved school and then there's that whole thing about experience...
    Navy Bomb Disposal-It's a BLAST!!

Much more welding work not underwater. Underwater welding is young mans job so they all end up working some place else.
