  • E7048

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience using 7048. I am thinking of trying some out for some piping jobs. The jobs won't be a mechanical piping type, but will be for boring. I thought that 7048 would make the job go alot quicker than 7018. Thanks in advance,
    John

I have never used this electrode but I am very interested in it's performance. Please keep us posted. Are you going to qualify a procedure or are you just going to use it?

      Mike,
I really don,t have to use any particular rod or method, just as long as the pipe holds together & doesn't break when it gets pulled through the hole. This job doesn't require any type of testing or certs. It just needs to hold together under a little stress.

John, I have done several underground boring jobs. We pulled 6" sch. 40 pipe. I welded it High Pressure style. 1/8" E6010 root, 3/32" E7018 for hot pass and cap. This way you never have to reset your welder.

          Mike,
I know what you mean. That is usually the way we do it too if the pipe is going to have to bow quite a bit to get into the hole.
Sometimes it has a pretty straight shot & we just run a couple of passes with 6011. This time we will be welding 18" pipe. That is why I was wondering about the 7048. If we had room to roll the pipe, it sure would make things go faster.
Thanks for your input, always enjoy what you have to say.

Sometimes I miss doing those jobs myself. Right about now I would like to take a couple of trucks, maybe three guys and head out for 3 month job. Anyway, try the E7048, it was designed to speed things up and let me know how you like it. Take your rod oven though, it is still a low hydrogen electrode.
