wire speed = amperage??

I am a welding student and my instrutor gave me a formula to figure out conserning wire speed and amperage.I have looked in my books and asked a little bit but cannot find the answer.Im hopeing someone can tell me or tell me where to look. I was told that you can work some formula with your amps and or volts to determine your wire speed.Im assumeing it is a mathmatical equation.
