  • Plasma cut question

Sorry for the basic question here, but want to make sure I'm getting started in the right direction.

When using a plasma to cut through tube or 2x4 rectangular steel, should the flame go through both sides and cut them both on the first pass, or do you literally cut all the way around it? FYI - the tube is .120 wall the the rectangle is .25 wall.

    Thank you!

    Junk,

Unless it is a very powerful plasma machine it will not make it thru both sides.Just work your way around the piece.A 120 volt plasma could cut that pretty well,A little more power would do it a little easier.

I have seen a portable plasma cut 2'' solid mild steel. It was not pretty but it cut thru. That was the 90 amp esab 1500 model. It has a real long cutting arc.
