  • carbon arc gouging torch for heating metal?

can a carbon arc gouging torch such as Arcair be used for heating steel for bending? If it is run without compressed air, will there be an overheating problem or some other problem?

I would like to get an old style twin carbon arc torch but it seems that the only way to do that is to make one, which I may end up doing. I am using a Hobart Stickmate

The Arcair, no...the twin carbon torch possibly...but I wouldn't do it.

If you want to heat steel for bending, you want an oxy fuel torch with a rosebud tip. Carbon arc air is designed for one thing only. Gouging and removing metal.
