  • Off topic: Monster Garage was good last night

It was the toyota celica jet engine car empisode. Very cool. They lengthened the car, but before cutting actually welded the front section to the frame of the lift to keep it straight. Then they cut the car, moved the back 1/2 and built the new frame, installing the jet engine. They had guys on there from the Skunk Works, who built the classified stealth bombers. The one guy said for 10 years he couldn't tell anyone what he was working on. That was Very cool to see. A lot of welding, no drama, and most of the time they used welding helmets. All in all I'd have to say it was probably in my top 3 favorite. The only other one that was clearly better was the one where they had the fire engine pumper. I liked that one because it had so much lathe machine work they showed.
Last nights show was so good my wife watched the whole thing with me!

I agree, it was a good show. There was a little drama with the seat...which I think the guy was stupid for wanting to cut the seat. If you didn't need that part, then why would they put it on in the first place? That guy was starting to get a little ****y and they quickly put him in his place.

I can imagine what the neighbors thought when they fired that sucker up on the 6th night...

As cool as it might be at times, I would NOT want to be living/working next door!

Mr. James has got a huge brass pair for actually driving in a jet powered Celica that was built in 6 days. He almost burned up the first time out, and then fixed the problem and actually did antoher run, he's nutz!

        Talk about critical welds!

The jet engine expert is out of Mcloud Oklahoma. One of my friends moved there a year ago and is good friends with his daughter, and I get to hear all the other details the TV doesn't show, wish I was old enough to get on the show . You get paid to be on it, you get to work with Jesse, and if it works, u get a buttload of free tools...awesome. I put in an application but it says you are supposed to be 18, i put my real age just in case they thought it would make a good TV gimmick...haha i doubt that but oh well...

Yes, that was a good episode. Did anyone else notice the flame job? That was the sweetest flame job I have EVER seen!

The paint job was awesome. Even my wife remarked about it being incredible. I thought the flame bits along the side were really cool final touch. I wonder how many coats it took to do that.
What's up with the 'must appear to be stock, and 5000 bucks rule? They came out and said that the engine cost 10 grand right off the bat! It's cool and all, but if they aren't going to play by the rules they set, then they should make them flexible! "For this project, the build team must stay under 50,000 bucks and must keep the left rear side window completely stock. That'd be fine with me!

I think they found nobody cares if they spend less than $5000, they just want to see a cool "monster" at the end of the show.

Like the trike looked anything like a Kenworth when they were done...

I agree, that has to be the best paint job I've ever seen. I thought the skull was cool but it actually took away from the awsome flame effect.

What I want to know is how they paint these cars in one night?

BTW, apply to be on MG here: http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mo...age/geton.html

                    Flame job

That kind of flame job seems to be the next trend of paint jobs. I noticed it on Jesse's truck a few shows ago. The fire looks very realistic!

Yeah, I don't care about the stock looking rule. It would be kind of cool if they could really do it for under 5K, just because it would give us some ideas, but it's cool nonetheless. I'm still wondering though, why a Honda??? I guess that gives a whole new meaning to "Rice rocket!"

Yea, the "rules" kind of bug me. If they don't get it done, or it doesn't work, nobody gets tools but if they blow the buget or it doesn't look stock they still get tools

I can't stop thinking about that paint job, it looked like the car was actually on fire!
