I don't see a thing wrong with your stick welds. Looks great to me. If you're doing this well with stick, you're going to be amazed at your MIG beads. Keep in mind, though, that it takes more juice to get the same penetration with MIG.

Your welds look fairly good. Like the other guys have remarked: Steady your hands and attempt to get seated somehow. In reference to the other gentleman who asked if you were using flux cored wire, I believe you were welding smaw, not mig...correct? Keep going, you're doing well

LOLOL! Thanks Robert. I fully agree. Let Indian Larry run a overhead bead while he's standing on the seat of hs chopper barefoot running down the highway with a beer in his free hand and no helmet.

I'm with you - give me any available crutch and a comfortable seat in warm place and keep both hands inside the car at all times.

I am no expert, either...

but they look pretty good to me. More heat is a **** of a lot better than not enough. Maybe someone else can comment, but I see no reason to whip your bead like that instead of just laying a continuous, smooth bead

Let me preface my answer by saying there are MANY better weldors on this board than me. I will be happy to stand corrected, but on initial observation:

1) Your heat looks a little high (notice the under-cutting in the material?). Undercutting is where it looks like somebody created a very fine line between the weld and the work material.

2) Your hand looks a little unsteady in some of the beads. Make sure you're resting your hand/arm for support and comfort. Practice and familiarity will improve the uniformity/consistency of your beads, make sure that's one of the things you're looking at when you critique them.

These are just some of my SMAW welds i have been practising. Im a real beginner. I am getting a new 175AMP mig soon. These were done with a ****ty little CIG 100amp. Will a 175Amp MIG do most jobs.

What u reckon about my welds.
