Another New Weldor !

Hello Everyone ! Well..I finally did it ! Regestered to get on this great board ! Been watching it for about 3 months, and I think it's great ! A little back-ground: I was born & raised in Detroit, and am a former tool & die maker. Live in Fla. now, and am a Mortician...(it's a long story, don't ask). Anyway, I'm a new hobby weldor, and man !...do I have some questions.
I'm the proud owner of an HH 135, Thunderbolt XL ac/dc, and a great Victor O/A outfit. (The guy at the welding store had a "field-day" with me). I'm depending on you all to give me some great pointers, so I can really enjoy these toys ! I did weld some years ago, but, reading this board, it's obvious I didn't know what I was doing...(God help the people that depended on THOSE welds) ! ANYWAY...I'm happy to be here !

Welcome to the fun center. One of my old drinkin partners was a mortician, and had the greatest sense of humor around. It was always fun when he'd park the hurse in front of a bar and we could generally get free drinks to get him to move it.

When you went to the welding supply store, did you take the pickup car to fetch the machines home?

Heck Franz ! . . .I didn't wanna' take the new toys on their last ride right off the bat !
I will say this: If I don't learn how to run 7018 vertical before
much longer, that Thunderbolt is going in the crematory !

Hi Markopolo,

Welcome to the board! Your welding store guy may have had a field day, but you did end up with a very complementary assortment of equipment. Good job!

Don't feel bad, vertical takes a lot of practice, and the 7018 is pretty unforgiving. Tell us exactly what you are doing and maybe attach a picture and let's see if we can't help you out.

Hi Markopolo! I'm just a vicarious observer, but I did know a mortician when I was in grade school. Every time I showed Mr. Murphy my excellent report card, he gave me a quarter.


It was a little too scary to go there trick or treating though.

MARCO!!! good to see some more W central fla guys here... TAMPA, meself. wheres you located? low- hydrogen can be somewhat tricky, just takes practice and some constructive critisism...i agree that the welding supplier hooked you up pretty good. nice to see that he didnt sell you a 110v mig and a line about how all other welders were obsolete now!

Thanks Killrjo ! . . .I'm about 60 miles north of you, in beautiful Citrus County. I must admit, I'm a "sentimental old fool"....
I insist on trying to learn stick.....I really enjoy it.
As far as the wire-feed goes.....it's on the back burner for now....
**** little device is too complicated for me !....2 knobs...
one for voltage, and one for feed speed......HOW DA' **** DO I KNOW WHICH ONE TO ADJUST ? Everyone tells me "Stick" is
