Anybody have a link to some pics that show what a rosebud flame should look like ?

I wanna get max. heat w/o wasting gas obviously.

    TIA

Rosebud flame doesn't photograph well, but it sould have light blue pencil point flames surrounded by a darker blue envelope flame. Rosebuds take more acetylene than normal, so if you get popping, increase your acetylene at the regulator.

A word of caution about rosebuds. If you run too large of one, or if you run one too long, you'll start to run out of usable accetylene "GAS", and you'll starve the flame and damage the rosebud. You can only use 1/7 th of the contents of the tank in one hour, so if you have a small 75 cubic foot tank, and you're using a large rosebud, your flame will quickly change, and could even start to spit little dropplets of liquid fire. (At least thats what I've been told, I've never used a rosebud for more than a minute or two at a time.) I have some customers who keep trying to use a big rosebud, and keep burning it up, but won't switch to a larger accetylene tank. Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone was having trouble trying to use a rosebud off of a "B" tank and was having trouble.

        I have a 75 cu.ft. tank and the tip is a Harris #2.

I'm not sure what's considered a "large rosebud".

        Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure but I think that tip is 20CFH which would require a 140CF bottle.

          I'll keep looking.
what is your handle number? part number of tip assy?

from what I can tell if the rosebud has 6 holes a standard 320CF bottle would be O.K. but if it has 8 holes that will not be enough you will have to manifold two bottles together.

If you don't have a large bottle to run an Acetylene rosebud think about using propane rosebud instead. Please be safe.

you can run any size rosebud off of any size tank, you just cant run it for vary long on the smaller tanks. i am using a #12 victor heavy industry rosebud off of a 75cf acet. and a 125cf oxy. and it works fine for about 5 minutes.

                  HORSE****!
That kind of misinformation will get people hurt or killed.
I'll bet you don't even have flashback arrestors or check valves on that torch.
Do the world a favor, play that kind of game in a large empty field away from people who aren't trying to win a Darwin Award.

Franz...he's talking about tank size, not pressure.

I realized that Rocky, BUT, when you start exceding the maximum flow rate for acetelene, it is easily possible to withdraw acetone, and get all the inherant problems thereof.
Acetelene tank valves aren't like propane valves with flow limiters built in.
On top of that, factor in the normal human behavior of screwing down the regulator to obtain more flow, and you have all the ingredients for a disaster.
Since we now have a few kids on this site, I figure it's best to emphacize safety over stupidity.

Hey franz, not trying to make any enemys here but i have been told by my neighbor who has been a professinal certified welder for over 30 years that it doesnt make one bit of difference whether you have a #6 or a #12 rosebud, they both work the same, just the 12 uses more gas quickly.

Aircraft, my Old Man used to say a wise man don't need any advice, and a fool won't take any.
Now, I'll be the first to deferr to any man who's neighbor is a professional certified weldEr for 30 years, cause my neighbor is only a certified idiot, although he has slept in a Motel 6, and has a piece of paper that certifys him as a school teacher, as well as a pension check from the Teacher's Retirement Fund. The neighbor on the other side ain't there any more cause the bank took hos house back, but he did know everything about pushin a lawnmower when he was there, and the guy in back relocated to the County Jail.
