  • plasma cutting using a template

I am taking an adult welding class at the local community college.

we have a plasma cutter and I've free hand cut a few small pieces of sheet metal. I have heard you can use wood for a template but have no idea how I would go about doing it.

I'm guessing 1/4 inch plywood cut out w/ a scroll saw or something?

any suggestions you have would be great. thank you

    pnj,

You have the general idea, just remember, that you have to offset your template by 1/2 the diameter of the guide on the end of the gun.

I use 1/4" flat mild steel for templates. I bend it into the shape I want and stand it up on its side. I put a few clamps on to hold it in place.
