Gas Lens'?

I m attaching a picture to this post that give you a comparision difference between the gas flowing from a convetional set up and a gas lens set up. After seeing this picture you should understand that the main advantage that a gas lens assembly provides is the ability to extend the electrode out a further distance from the end of the cup allowing you to have a better veiw of the weld puddle.

I m sorry, but I don t know an exact answer to your flow rate question. Most of the welding books in my library contain charts that give a recommended gas flow range for each cup size. I just general run between 20 and 30 CFH on my gas flow.

HEY GUYS, DIDNT WANT TO SIDE TRACK FRED'S THREAD SO I FIGURED THAT I WOULD START A NEW ONE. RIGHT NOW I AM USING A TORCH alot LIKE THE ONE ROCKY POSTED A PIC OF [ROCKY, ARE YOU ABLE TO CHANGE THE ANGLE OF THE HEAD ON THAT TORCH?] IF SO, I'M USING PRETTY MUCH THE SAME ONE, EXCEPT THAT FLEXIBLE PEICE IN THE HEAD, THAT ALLOWS THE HEAD TO BE REPOSITIONED, IS BROKEN, SO THE HEAD JUST KINDA BOBS AROUND ANYWAY, I DONT HAVE A GAS LENS FOR IT, JUST A STANDARD SET UP. HOW MUCH WILL IT HELP TO SWITCH OVER? DOES IT HELP ARC STABILITY AT ALL?

ANOTHER QUESTION, ANYONE KNOW THE CFM WHERE THINGS TEND TO START TO GO BAD? IE TOO MUCH FLOW, CREATING TURBULANCE WITH THE FILLER ROD THAT CAN PULL ATMOSPHERIC GASES INTO THE WELD?
