  • Welding Turbocharger Exhaust flange

I am beyond my capabilities here. I just bought a new T04 Turbo-charger. It needs to have the exhaust flange welded to it. The Housing is CAST (Cast Composition, **** if I know). Flange is 304 SS.

TIG or Stick? What Rod? Preheat requirements?

Banzai, you are going to have trouble here if you are not careful. First thing you need to do is positively identify the material. Once you do that we can proceed from there.

        Housing is Ductile Iron.

        Borg-Warner recommended:
        200-250ºF Pre-Heat
        Pure Nickel Rod
        Argon Shielding gas
Followed by a slow cool down

        Sound Plausible????

Given a choice, I would always follow the manufacturers instructions first. Let me know how it turns out.
