  • What should my setting be on my Miller 225?

I have a Miller 225 220V stick welder. What setting should my gauge be on for welding 1/4" steel?

I have been using 1/8th 6013 rod with my welder set at 150 and my welds look like this with little splatter and appears to be good penetration, but i am a self taught rookie rookie welder... Can anyone give me a recommendation on settings and my weld?

    Thanks!

Try setting the machine at 120 amps. That's more like where you need to be.

My favorite rod is 1/8 inch 6013 and I almost always run it at 120 on AC.

Ok I will lower it down to 120, someone just told me when i first started to burn as hot as you can so you get plenty of penetration...

I will try 120 and let you know, thanks!

Luke, Miller makes an inexpensive slide rule calculator for Stick. Runs around $3 at your local dealer.

Shows welding rod types/sizes and the corresponding amp setting range for each. Back side showsrod characteristics. Well worth getting.
