Rock: Thanks. I believe I know the answer but need confirmation. The mach. setting calls for a 0 setting on gtaw. While tweeking the mach. for max penetration in the 6g posi. with 70s & 309 S.S. have found that with main power setting at 100 and remote at 75-85 range I need the arc force between 20&30%. Now I have to try and explaine to some of the apprentices why do you use a setting other than what is recommended on the mach. Must understand these are fairly new people tp the welding game. Thanks in advance Hobart-Miller Exps. Stu

Stu,
When you turn the SMAW switch to off position on the Mark VI you are disabling the arc force adjustment (a 0 setting). When Tig welding with any machine you would always want the arc force (dig) set to 0 or turned off as this will have a negative effect on your arc.

Kevin: Thank you I agree with you. There must be a problem with our 6-packs or possible wiring? While tigging you can turn the arc force up even tho smaw is off. Tried it at 0, 20, 50, &100 of force. The higher the force the more unstable the weld puddle. Seems to run real good at 20. With 70s & 309ss. Is there a possible adjustment to the force control? Both 6-packs seem to be the same. They are only a year or to old and used for our welding school. I'am going to use them as they are for this week, It's the last week of testing for a few weeks. But if there is something I can check-out or have checked I will. If it was just one mach. and not the whole bank of 2 6-packs I would say it's a bad mach. And send it out for repair. Maybe doing something wrong? Arc force 0 smaw off 2 swithches on remote , mach. set at 100 at booth is on and set at 85. Thanks Stu
