  • Plasma Cutting Brass/Copper Sheet

Hello everyone. Been reading the board for a while and this is my first post. There is a lot of expertise here.

Can anyone offer any tips or advise on plasma cutting brass or copper.

I have a Hypertherm 900 plasma cutter and have cut many things from steel but that's pretty much it. I have a request to plasma cut some brass and copper items but I am not sure what results to expect. Is there anything special in the set up(current setting or air pressure) or technique? Any dangers associated with these materials?

The material is costly and I don't want to waste any.

    Thanks
    Steve

I've cut brass and copper with mine, and it really doesn't cut that different from steel. It may cut a little slower because both brass and copper eat a lot of heat.
Your best bet is to try a cut on something that's going to be scrap anyhow.

One of the guys form my shop uses my zip cut to make weathervanes out of old copper lined tanks.
        The machine cuts like butter.

        Good Luck
