Man, that certainly is a novel idea. A torch you can cut with and plaz weld with. Too bad it's so clunky. I wonder how much the consumables are and how often do you need to change them?

Torch filled with water is a lot better than one filled with gasoline!

That's the second time this contraption has surfaced in the last year, so I went and checked out his web site. I sure was impressed with all them medals that were presented, and it occurred to me this guy just might be onto something I should investigate.
Well, I grabbed the wiff's least favorite tool, her steam iron, and headed out to the shop with it. Hooked a couple alligator clips up to the plasma machine, and connected the leads to the steam iron. I even filled th eiron whth that special demineralized water the wiff buys for it, and got myself out a piece of steel.
Then, I flipped the plasma machine on, and donned appropriate safety glasses. Well, my results were a tad disappointing. First time I pressed the red button on the iron, I got knocked across the shop and landed on my ***.
On the theroy that there never was a horse that couldn't be rode, I donned more safety equipment, rubber gloves, and had another shot at it. The arc was magnificent, and when I came to the wiff was standin there with her baseball bat, and my head hurt. She informed me first thing tomorrow I best be buyin her a new steam iron. I limped back into the house and applied direct pressure to the cut on my head. Yup, that Steam plasma sure does cut, or was it the wiff's bat from behind. More experimenting may be necessary.

Last night on TV they showed the biggest cruise ship in the world being built in Finland. They were cutting the steel for the ship under water with a huge CNC Plasma cutter to keep the HAZ area as low as possible.

RCH, one thing I know for sure is before I put down the kind of money that guy is asking for his steam plasma I'm gonna test drive it. My distributor never balks at letting me test drive any machine, on my premises, for 30 days, unless he's already told me the machine won't do the job I want to do with it.
Another thing I know is if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
I've seen plasma, lazer and water jet systems up close, including CNC driven systems, and if this Russian contraption was so good, it would be getting a lot of use in industry.
Cutting under water, and water sumps under cutting tables is nothing new, and fairly simple to acheive if you do enough cutting to justify it. It certainly is a good idea for spark control and fire safety.
I'm also quite conversant with steam atomization of liquid fuel combustion, but I doubt that applys to the Russian plasma unit.
Boilerman can feel free to jump in on that concept. He can probably explain it better than I can.
Rock, 23' 6", and the starting arc hurts.
