What about if I have to weld a piece of very thin round bar where I will only need a touch without travel, what would give a good penentration?
Thank you again
Alfredo
Alfredo, give me a little more info...what do you mean by "what would give a good penentration?" Are you talking wire diameter, parameters, fitup, technique, process???
I am sorry about my poor wording, English is not my first language and sometimes I struggle to make myself clear (Please bear with me) The thing is that I have read about gun angle and speed travel and the combination of both to get a better penetration. So what about if I have to weld only in one spot. Since I am not traveling because it is just the tip of a thin round bar being welded to another tip or to a plate what would give the best penetration. Would it be the longer I keep the arc the better pen I get.
Thank you
Alfredo
OK you're talking about spot welding with MIG...the penetration will occur in the first second, then the metal will pile up on top of itself. You will be getting more penetration, but it diminishes as the weld metal builds up. Do practice runs to see it for yourself. It's not rocket science. BTW your English is a good deal better than most folks where I live.

No. Wat chu want is a beval and/or a gap dat chu cud gets da weld into. Grind one bar to a chisel type shape and leave a slight gap between da two bars or da plate and da bar. Weld from both sides.
