  • another frame by the same "AWS certified welder"

no gusseting in the head stock and again...... this tubing is not seamless and the rod is silicon bronze. I don't think there is any room for error with this process and the lack of fittings at the butt joints aren't encouraging. The head stock itself is also VERY thin.
This frame is to house a much heavier engine than the frame that broke three times.

I'll have pix of the broken frame very soon.

I noted that quite a few of you popped out to view my chopper page and specifically the frame I'm sure.

Any response on the welds? They look good to me but I'm certainly no expert.

    Thanks,

      ,

      looks alright to you???

obviously even being told these frames break aren't enough motivation to have you get that to a certified person for inspection

how about seeing MikeB's broken frame??

would that do it for you?

        Hackasaw,

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not an expert welder. The welds look ok to me. That's my opinion.

I've been wandering around on the various message boards referenced by your posts starting at hondachopper.com and haven't seen the broken frame yet. The comments say that it was a broken tube and not the welds.

I've read quite a bit about it and seen the pictures of the welds you showed when you cut open the oil tank. I agree that having burrs on the inside of the tank is bad. I don't know what sugaring on a weld is or the other things that have been mentioned. The welds on the inside of the tank don't look good to me.

Tell me what's wrong with the welds. Show me the problem. Telling me there are pinholes in the welds don't help if I can't see them. Point them out.

As I said in another place, I intend on having someone inspect the work. If I can find a shop that I can get it fully inspected, I'll take it there. In the meantime, I'm on a welder's board. Maybe one of the folks here can eyeball my pics and give me more information.

Thanks for pointing out that there is a problem.

          .

          follow this link

the broken frame is there and Mike is VERY VERY lucky

I hope all works out for you and the guys that have pushed the numbers on you frame are wrong...... but they aren't.

do note that I do not build frames, I do not build oil tanks........ but if I did.......... the frames would be per my spec and finite analysis done before the first tube was bent.......... if it was to be sold to the motoring public........

now it would be very easy to simply overbuild a frame and sleep well at night just as well.

Seriously, you don't need me to point anything out on your rig.... just have it looked at and just like I do with everyone of my personal rides........ always walk around it and give it a good hands on look over before you sling that leg over it.

          Peace my friend.

Hack, thank you for posting that link...now I see what you are talking about. The problem here is three fold.

            Underpowered welder

            Bad fit up

            Inexperienced weldor.

And the welds should have never been ground off.

As part of my job as an aircraft weldor, I am also a AMQAS certified welding inspector. I not only weld , but inspect heliarc welding to Boeing, Douglas, (I know, they're out of business, but their specs still reign) and RPS11.14, all having to do with the airplanes you fly in.

I think if those welds were Zyglo tested, they light up like a Christmas tree. You have done a magnaimous job of telling the world about this guy's ineptness.

The saying comes to mind..."Bitterness is a poison YOU swallow, hoping your enemy will die."

            Life is too short...be happy!

                Hackasaw,

My apologies. I've seen the link before but thought it was to Tallon's website. I just spent a few minutes checking it out. Interesting pics. Especially of the cracked frame.

I'll have someone inspect it before putting any hardware on the frame.

                Thanks again.

                  .

                  Thank you gentlemen.

Having been thru cyber battles before, I had to carefully consider the inevitable damages I could possibly accrue and no doubt making many people think I had other motives other than to open the people's eyes and hopefully prevent any more good people from being hurt. This gent and I are not in competition as I do not build frames for sale. I also do not build oiltanks for sale although I did build a matching headlight and oil tank for my red springer BSA which was recently adopted by a family member.

My local biz is very solid and the internet biz is only icing on a very fine cake...... I am fortunate.

There is NO vendetta at all and this gent has been doing work at this standard and lower for quite a long time now with NOBODY speaking up. This is unfortunate as some very credible people with first hand experience have stood by silently knowing the product is NFG. I am not so foolish that I did not consider posting the truth could land me in court since this gent has certainly suffered financial damages as a result of my posts. I am quite rigid in my convictions that this gent must stop taking people's money while he discovers he is neither a frame designer or welder...... or qualified to fabricate aluminum tanks.

Blaming a customer for supplying bad specs will never hold water in a court of law when the plaintiff is permantly maimed due to such designs and crapsmanship.

I will be back for your help with my personal welding questions and I do have a fine old Hobart Cyberwave 110P...... I will need to know some things about it since I suspect the gap may need tweaking a bit and perhaps it has a silly board.

That will be another day and of course I am a happy person Rocky but not due to having to be invovled in this frame/tank matter.... confrontation is not always unavoidable and sometimes it simply has to happen no matter what the cost. I assure you there is no bitterness whatsoever although when I look over the MANY concerns from the people that have contated me regarding similar type issues....... over the last year plus........ it does anger me to know how many hard working people he has stolen from with this charade. Otherwise my life is very harmonious and I'm quite cheerful.

I do understand how easy it is to think ulterior motive and that was considered during the decision making process. I can and will live with any losses or repercussions. At no time have I done any of this using bogus names. I am quite easy to find and my IP addy is easily verified. All my contact info including address is practically public knowledge. Right on the front page of my site and all over the net.

I am very glad not be attacked here with nasty smoke screens and such. Thank you all for your open opinions, your open minds, and tolerance.

                  Peace and
