MIG tip question

Is there any welding situation / circumstance in which it would be consisdered a DIS-advantage to use a recessed tip?

I stick out my tip a bit when I'm short circuiting with med/low amps.

One disadvantage might be if you welding a joint where the nozzle gets in the way and you can't get close enough to the weld joint for optimum electrode stickout.
