  • TV show with tips on how to weld aluminum...check it out!!

Hey guys I know you are NOT Lincoln fans here , but I thought you might be interested in seeing this. I got a newsletter from Lincoln Electric talking about a show on TV that will show you tricks on how to weld aluminum with a 110volt welder...too bad I don't get speed channel ...anyone want to tape it for me??

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Learn how to weld aluminum with Sam and Dave on Two Guys Garage Show!

Speed Channel features Lincoln Electric and the SP-135 Plus.

    Show: Two Guys Garage
    Channel: Speed Channel
Air Date: Sunday, June 1, 2003
    Time: 11:00 am ET
    (check local listings)

Show airs a total of four times the week of June 1, so stay tuned!

Aluminum MIG welding with a good 115-120v wire feeder welder is practical - and challenging, unless you know the tricks of the trade. In this segment, Two Guys Garage hosts Sam Memmolo and Dave Bowman will demonstrate aluminum welding with a Lincoln Electric SP-135 Plus. Don't miss it!

I did find the show listed for 7:30 and 8:00 AM on the west coast. They do call it Speed Channel, and it is listed as chan 103 on my cable. Will try to see if I can really get that channel.
    Thanks for the tip.

John V, from my experience with their shows, there won't be much substance to what they show.

Sam and Dave are both pretty good mechanics. I enjoy watching them, but I think their old show "Shadetree Mechanic" on TNN was more informative. The Speed Channel version (Two Guys Garage) seem to almost be an infomercial; they're always installing or using some high dollar contraption that they praise relentlessly. Still, the last Lincoln demo they did on welding cast without preheat by staying below the transition temperature was pretty good. I'm going to try it on a friend's non structural application (output duct from a blacksmith forge blower). And I'm not in the closet - I have access to Lincoln AC-225 and Mig 175 and use them alot, but I'll shop around when I put my money down. I really like the AC-225, but I think the Hobart 135 or Miller 135 would give the Linclon 135 a run for its money.

John, I watch them occasionally, but Blacksmith is right; they were better on TNN, but there is no more TNN.

Sure enough, just go out and buy the aluminum conver$ion kit and you can weld aluminum with your 110 volt Mig welder. Oh and don't weld anything critical, save up for a Tig welder. Anyway, it was a break from grouting the new kitchen counter.

The show wasnt bad either. One of the best camera pictures of an aluminum puddle with a tig arc ive seen. I own a lincoln, a century and now a hobart..its all personal preference.
