  • At last, I can see

Well I finally did it, I went to Walgreens and bought a pair of reading glasses. I had to get +350's to get vision at 12-15 inches. I normally wear veralux progressive's and for normal use they are fine. I think I can see the weld puddle for the first time, its really cool. I noticed a very large improvement as soon as I put them on. The problem is when I take my helmet off I can't see a darn thing. Oh well, I will trade better welds and more control for switching glasses anytime...
    Regards, George

At a boy george, glasses can do a world of good. We must see to weld at least to weld good hey.
In my tool welding I too had to go and buy glasses for looking at the ends of welds for any undercut and I mean any is too much. I also have a magnifiying glass for help in this too.

        George,
Check to see if you can snap a cheater lens into your helmet instead of using the glasses. Some helmets are set up for them and some are not, if not I have seen people tape them in. This way at least you could see when you flip up your helemt.
Just another possible option for you.

Thanks Kevin, I'll see if I can do just that. Both my helmets are Jackson 4 X 5's, one auto and the other fixed at #9.

            Kevin

I went this morning and got a 1.25 cheater for my helmet, it works really great and fits right into my Jakson helmet. I think I will get a 1.50 for closer work. The only bad thing was that I asked my wife to return the glasses to walgreen but I forgot to tell her to not spend the money she got back...oh well...
