Was told to use an RG type rod when welding with Acetylene Oxygen. Claims that any rod that contains silicone, interacts with acetylene and the weld will be brittle. Comments please.

I have heard the same thing. Wish I had known before I mixed a bunch of Tig rods with my old O/A rods. I don't know, but assume that the Tig rods had some silicone content.
